I’ve always loved writing and receiving letters. Call me an old soul, but letter writing is a lost art. There are just some things that need to be written instead of spoken. There are some things too important to be properly conveyed in a text message. Some letters are meant to be sent. Some letters are meant to be tucked into a journal, their recipient never becoming aware of their existence. Some letters are meant to be shared with you.

Dear Halli,

Any day now you’ll leave the security of your mommy’s womb and enter this big, busy world. You’ll be overwhelmed by sights, sounds, and voices. You’ll meet a multitude of people during your first few days. One of them will be me. I’m your Aunt Kristin. I’m here for the long haul.

Your mommy and I have been friends for many years. Even before I was married to your Uncle Jonathan, I loved her and Nanny very much. In fact, our families go way back. My grandparents and your great-grandparents grew up together. We were meant to be family and I’m so very glad. As I was having my coffee this morning, I began thinking about you and the journey that lies before you. Here you are at the very beginning. It’s going to be an exciting ride, Halli! There are a few things I want you to know about the amazing life you will have.

You are loved.

First and foremost, you are loved, little one. Before we have held you in our arms or heard your little voice, we love you. Your mommy and daddy can’t wait to see you and watch you complete their family. Their faces have been glowing for months now. They love you. Your sisters and brothers are excited and nervous and ready to take care of you, argue with you, defend you, and love you. Your grandparents are waiting to spoil you and defend you. They love you. Uncle Jonathan is excited to be your buddy and your pastor. He’s ready to play with you and, also, to boss you around! Your cousins are so excited to see you. You have a tight little group of first cousins who just might kill someone over you and, trust me, no one will want to cross Kloe, Emily, Bella, Briley Cash, and Jonna Klaire when they are united in a common purpose! They love you. I love you, more than you’ll ever know, little Halli. I’ve loved you since the moment I found out you were coming, just like the rest of your family. I can’t wait for you to come over and hang out! Most importantly, the Lord loves you. He loved you first, before any of us. No matter what life holds, He will love you always, eternally, perfectly.

We are praying for you.

You are being born into a family that believes in the power of prayer. We have prayed for you since we found out you existed. We will pray for you as long as we live. Know that with every step you take, prayers have gone before you.

Your family is amazing!

God has chosen such wonderful parents for you! Your momma is strong and sweet. She knows how to face adversity and come through the other side. Her kids are her world and you will be no exception. She’ll play with you, laugh with you, and love you to the moon and back. Your daddy is a good man. He is steadfast and honest. He will love and protect you with all he has. Your parents will teach you about the Lord and His Word. They will be your advocates and intercessors. They’ll be there when no one else is there.

Halli, you have some awesome siblings. Brayden will always stand by you and stand up for you. Bailee will worry about you, help take care of you, and keep everyone updated on all your progress. Kenlee Ann will teach you new things and show you the ropes. Sam will keep you hopping and make you laugh. You are the perfect completion of this herd!

Never give up!

Life is not going to be very complicated at first. You’ll be surrounded by people who will love and care for you. As you grow, it will get trickier. There will be trials and tests. You’ll face battles and hard times. When life gets tough, don’t give up. Don’t ever give up. You are stronger than you think. You are capable of more than you realize. You serve a God who is mightier than you can comprehend. Don’t give up.

Integrity is important.

No matter what comes your way, always be a girl or woman of integrity. Be loyal to those you love. Stand up for what’s right, no matter the cost. Be honest, even when it’s hard. Most importantly, be faithful to God, above all else.

Be resilient.

No matter how hard you try, you will make mistakes. You’ll mess up. You’ll lose things you thought you couldn’t stand to lose. Doors will close that you thought were your big chance. You will fail. Your heart will be broken. You’ll feel like you can’t go on. What should you do during those times? You’ll grieve for a while. You’ll cry. You’ll feel discouraged. But then, you’ll encourage yourself in the Lord, get yourself together, and walk straight forward with more determination than ever. If you never listen to another word I say (there will be many), please listen to this: Always forward in faith! There’s nothing behind you worth looking back to. Forward.

Serve the Lord with all your heart.

God has a plan for your life, Halli. He looked down on all of us and decided we needed you! He has big things for you to do! Once you give your heart to Jesus, never look back. Hide God’s Word in your heart. Walk forward in faith. Run this race with all your might. Be faithful to God and He will be faithful to you. That’s a big promise, but it’s very true. He’ll always guide your steps and fight your battles, if you’ll serve and obey Him.

You can do anything!

Never let anyone tell you what you can’t do. You can do anything that you set your mind and your heart to. Even the impossible becomes possible with the Lord by your side! I promise to believe in you and the rest of your family will too!

Halli, I can’t wait to watch you begin this life! I promise to love you, no matter what. You’re probably going to trash Christmas, but I love you anyway, just like I’ll still love you, no matter what you do or where you go. I’ll always be here.
