As a new blogger, this is the first time I’ve been honored with an award. I am so grateful to be nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award and would like to extend my heart-felt gratitude to fellow blogger, Rachel, from Burts Bowl. Rachel is a talented author who has come through some adversity. Her experiences have given her depth, yet she has maintained a fresh and vivid voice. To read Rachel’s work, check out Burts Bowl at https://www.burtsbowl.com/ . I’ll be answering Rachel’s questions below. At the bottom of the post, you’ll find The Sunshine Blogger Award Rules as well as the list of my nominees and my questions for them.

QUESTIONS FROM THE NOMINATOR

1. What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve had a passion for writing for as long as I can remember. I’ve considered blogging for years, as an opportunity to write and also to reach others. My life always seemed too busy and hectic. Finances always seemed too tight. After some serious prayer, I decided to finally focus on starting a blog. Actually, I devoted my first blog post to this topic specifically. To find out more about my decision to start blogging read “A Covenant Beginning”.

2. What is your preferred topic to write about & why?

This is a difficult question for me to answer! So much so, that I launched my blog with three subdivisions in place. I like to write about a variety of topics. I’m most passionate about biblical study, however. I like to dig a little deeper, discover connections that I’ve previously overlooked, and share the results. My passion for biblical study runs deep because I love God’s Word and would love to encourage others to read and study the Bible more.

3. What tips do you have to maintain good mental health?

To maintain good mental health, I recommend prayer, journaling, and relying on your support system, if you have a strong one. Most of all, look to the Lord! Surrender your burdens to Him! God tells us in his Word that He is a “very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). In 1 Peter 5:7, we are instructed to cast our cares upon Him, because He cares for us! Surrender your problems, sadness, heartbreak, stress, and worry to Jesus in faith!

4. What is your favourite animal & why?

I realize that in this age of all things politically correct, everyone is supposed to be an ardent animal lover. Unfortunately, I’m not one. I don’t wish ill-will on animals and I can appreciate them, but I prefer to do so from a distance. That being said, my oldest child, Kloe, who still lives at home, has a little Chiweenie dog named Atticus whom I’ve managed to grow somewhat attached to. Still my favorite animal, to admire from a distance, generally speaking, would be the lion. Lions are such regal creatures and are identified with the tribe of Judah, and therefore, with the Lord!

5. Your all time favourite film/movie?

Wow. This is another challenging question. I love classic films and my movie of choice greatly depends on my mood. I can be a moody and emotional creature! I would have to pick The Ten Commandments (1956). It’s a Cecil B. DeMille epic. The music is incredibly dramatic. Not only is it about Moses, one of my very favorite biblical figures, but Charlton Heston becomes Moses. Some honorable mentions are My Fair Lady, Send Me No Flowers, Arsenic and Old Lace, Gone With the Wind, and Pillow Talk.

6. Your favourite cake?

My very favorite cake is my grandmother’s Homemade Hot Fudge Cake. Mammie makes the cake and the fudge sauce from scratch. It’s so delicious that I can’t eat Hot Fudge Cake from a restaurant, because it doesn’t even compare!

7. Gym/Outdoor/Home Workout/Sport?

Honestly, I don’t have have an athletic bone in my body. I’m a singer and a bookworm! Although I enjoy the occasional bonfire or sitting out on my porch, I would rather be in my home, curled up with a good book or writing. My kids and I sometimes do Zumba in the living room and we have a plan to start walking. Exercise is definitely something I really need to fit into my routine on a more consistent basis.

8. Beach or Woodland?

Beach! I love the ocean and have been known to get into a little trouble with the lifeguards at times. The beach is definitely my favorite vacation destination.

9. How do you keep yourself motivated/inspired to write?

At this point, I really don’t have to put forth any contrived effort to stay motivated or inspired. My thoughts are constantly churning and I’ve always got something to say.

10. Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter for blog-exposure & why?

I use all three, but so far, Facebook drives the most people to my blog. I’m not sure that will always be the case. Facebook is very popular in my area, so more people follow me on this platform that I actually know in real life. My blog is just over a week old at this point, so I’m not sure if Facebook will remain the best venue for exposure as my Twitter following grows. Twitter moves at a faster pace, ideally with the opportunity to reach more people. So, time will tell.

11. Your top ‘best dupes’ (1-5 items)

1-I love Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation, SPF 15. I like full coverage and I actually prefer to feel my makeup, which may sound crazy to some. I spent years looking for the perfect foundation and when I found this one, I was pretty sure it couldn’t get much better. However, at $39 per tube, is just isn’t always feasible for me. Totally by accident, I found a dupe at Walmart! I had expelled every drop of foundation out of my Tarte tube. I even cut it in half and scraped the inside! I was broke. So, I went to Walmart to pick up some cheap foundation to carry me through. A friend had suggested Rimmel London’s Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, since I was such a fan of full coverage. I tried it and haven’t purchased a tube of Tarte since. I’m not saying it’s identical and Rimmel’s version may be a tad oilier, but, overall, it’s similar. After I set with loose powder, the look and feel is close to the same. For the price of $4.97, Rimmel definitely delivers!

2-Although today’s culture pushes us to choose all-natural and organic substances whenever possible, I just can’t get away from Sweet-n-Low! I love it. I don’t use it when I bake, but as far as coffee, iced tea, etc., I prefer Sweet-n-Low over sugar. I use a lot of it. I like my saccharin! In recent years, I have discovered that any off brand is a great dupe. As long as the packet is pink, you’re good!
